Killing Time: Do Japanese Coin Laundries Have Wi-Fi?

What to Do for 60 Minutes?

You are stuck at the laundry for an hour. Can you watch Netflix or get some work done?

The Wi-Fi Situation

It depends on the shop.
Modern Chains (e.g., Baluko, WASH House): Often provide Free Wi-Fi and sometimes even power outlets for charging your phone. They are designed as “Laundry Cafes” or comfortable waiting spaces.

Old Neighborhood Shops: Usually NO Wi-Fi. Bring a book or a pocket Wi-Fi.

How to Check

Look for stickers on the window that say “Free Wi-Fi” or the standard Wi-Fi symbol. If you see a table and chairs with magazines, it’s a good sign.

Pro Tip: The “Konbini” Backup

If the laundry has no Wi-Fi, the Convenience Store (Konbini) next door often has free Wi-Fi (though some chains are phasing this out). Or simply enjoy the digital detox!
